NetComm, an Australian designer and manufacturer of data communications equipment, has signed a deal to sell its range of modems in Poland.

The Australian company will ship its modems in kit form for local assembly by the Polish company DigiLab, which will also provide support to users.

The agreement covers a wide range of products, including internal and automatic modems as well as the NetComm SmartModem range.

Mr Paul Heath, NetComm's general manager of sales and marketing, described the Polish deal, combined with an existing agreement with a British company, as a ``springboard into the broader European market".

Mr Heath said: ``We expect the new European market to be an excellent opportunity in the next few years, particularly with the added eastern European potential.

``This new agreement combined with our current distribution agreement in the United Kingdom gives us a very firm foothold into that expanding market."
